Zero Generation is happy to announce its partnership with IAAS (International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences). The aim of this partnership is to develop a professional training system for IAAS.
IAAS was founded in Tunis in 1957 and is today one of the world’s largest student organisations. It gathers students studying, majoring or researching in agriculture and related areas such as environmental sciences, forestry, food sciences and landscape architecture. The organisation’s activities consist of an annual World Congress, several regional Director’s Meetings across continents, exchange weeks and seminars.
Representatives of IAAS were introduced to the concept of training at the first Leadership Summer School in 2008. Since then, its members have actively taken part in this annual event and the positive experiences have spread among the organisation. It has become apparent that among a large student association there is an increasing need for developing soft skills such as leadership, communication and project management in order to motivate and empower individual members and committees.
Against this background, a partnership with Zero Generation was initiated in 2009 by the Executive Committee of IAAS. The main objective of the partnership is to gradually develop an independently functioning training system in IAAS. Â The role of Zero Generation is to mentor, facilitate and provide expertise in this process. In practice this is done by regular online and face-to-face meetings, strategy planning, by providing Zero Generation trainers to IAAS events and by training new trainers in IAAS , as during the European Directors Meeting in January 2011.
The work is currently underway and next steps include planning the Roadmap for 2011-2012. Concrete actions are taken as Zero Generation will provide trainers to the IAAS World Congress in Macedonia in July 2011. Demonstrating the benefits of training at the organisation’s biggest annual event will hopefully eventually lead to increased training at the national level. We in Zero Generation are looking forward to taking the steps to creating an even better IAAS!
